THE DUCKS ARE HERE

eggstyles (by the way, who is your new icon-I don't recognize the face) wanted to hear more about tuesday's hunt so I thought I'd blog a little since I didn't have time yesterday.

John Farley and I had a great hunt in North Bridge. At first light the action was slow....about 645 the ducks seemed to start flying in droves. Despite that they weren't really working ducks. We were kept busy with onesies or twosies of teal coming in and a couple times a big flock of teal. Lots of birds flying to make calling hopeful. We were never bored, every time I poured a good cup of coffee it would either end up cold or spilled. John Farley was sitting in the butter seat as all the ducks came in from the west end of the pit. He took full advantage, shooting very well. We limited at about 0845 or so, and things were just starting to get interesting. Large flocks of mallards and pintail started working and it took real discipline to case the guns and leave, because it was turning into "one of those days" where every duck seems to want your spread. more »

Mack Warr also hunted today...

...out of North Roberts but his hunt is not logged. I asked how he did as I was gonna log the hunt for him and received a "I did okay, can't complain" in reply. Saw no birds at the cleaning station so who knows how his hunt went. Mr Vagueskins. But heard plenty of shooting so my guess North Roberts did well too.

a lot of browsers..

and no posters. I see mjohns, mouse, twturner, and skendrick on and no postings. perhaps posts are in progress. Skendrick in particular, needs to get busy with some hunt log entries! Remember the day last week (Wed, the 29th) with you, me, and Charles in North Bridge? I left early to catch a nap because i had to work in Memphis that afternoon. You and Charles stayed out and I heard through the grapevine that your patience was rewarded by bustin a cap in several more ducks and geese. HOWEVER, there is no hunt log entry! If you dont know how, I'll give you a tutorial. I wonder how many more have not been recording their hunts in the hunt log?? more »

Lost and Found (CASE XX Peanut Knife)

Found a knife at the duck cleaning station this weekend. Its a "peanut style" CASE XX knife. I have it in my possession for safekeeping. Pass the word along. The keen edge of this blade and good condition lets me know it belongs to someone who would appreciate having it back. Seems like I remember one of the Yanks using it to clean ducks either the day before, or the day that they left.

AWESOME website changes

Hey Moo,

Love the recent site changes. Especially the full width picture headers, and the pics that keep changing on it are truly spectacular. Also love the direct links to useful info direct from the homepage, the "resources" items. (schedule and teams, contact list, and soon to be hunt log). Can't wait until the daily shooting hours are available directly on the home page too!

Check out this pic....two men I loved a lot at a place we all loved to be....we are looking very proud b/c back then the limit was two mallards! I know...hard to believe, but true.

Digital camera's are relatively CHEAP! This is a challenge to you young guys to get one and start taking some pictures this year....20 years from now you won't regret the memories! I guess its a challenge to you old guys too to start making a photographic record of your hunts...

We have the cool website to to showcase your photos....if you don't know how to get them posted, email them to me or Moo, and we can post them for you! The pictures are a great way in the off season to re-live your memories from the season past, and whet your appetite for the season to come! more »

Preparations!

Today at Sam's I bought some of the greatest Chafing dishes I've ever seen for the money. They are the greatest thing since sliced bread! For those of you who don't know, they are the warming pans (sterno fuel) that keep your brunch warm (seen at fancy places like the skyway brunch at the Peabody Hotel...heehee) until you get served. Anyway, they were CHEAP and utilized the heavy duty throwaway aluminum pans that BBQ caterers use (you know the ones), so they don't LOOK like a million bucks but at least your opening day brunch of homemade eggs, bisquits, gravy, bacon, and sausage will be WARM by the time you get to it...... more »
