THE DUCKS ARE HERE

eggstyles (by the way, who is your new icon-I don't recognize the face) wanted to hear more about tuesday's hunt so I thought I'd blog a little since I didn't have time yesterday.

John Farley and I had a great hunt in North Bridge. At first light the action was slow....about 645 the ducks seemed to start flying in droves. Despite that they weren't really working ducks. We were kept busy with onesies or twosies of teal coming in and a couple times a big flock of teal. Lots of birds flying to make calling hopeful. We were never bored, every time I poured a good cup of coffee it would either end up cold or spilled. John Farley was sitting in the butter seat as all the ducks came in from the west end of the pit. He took full advantage, shooting very well. We limited at about 0845 or so, and things were just starting to get interesting. Large flocks of mallards and pintail started working and it took real discipline to case the guns and leave, because it was turning into "one of those days" where every duck seems to want your spread.

Scouting Report:

Several times over the morning Mallards ignored us and landed in the South Bridge dekes. North Roberts did well (only Mack hunted there...we heard the Argo roar to life for a departure run at 0830 so we assumed he limited). Remember that 2.5 inches of rain fell Monday night our area, so that changes the working patterns of the ducks. And my oh my, there seemed to be ducks everywhere. Almost everywhere there was water I saw ducks sitting or working. The House pit had birds, Heeb had about 3-5K rafted up in the north end of the field, all of section two had birds.....I didn't see Claypools east or West, but my best guess is that every pit could have limited tuesday if they only had hunters. WHERE ARE THOSE YANKS WHEN YOU NEED THEM MOST!

Of course you never know what the ducks are gonna do, but based on the new water and the sheer number of ducks I saw yesterday...if you can get over there you need to.....field conditions are PERFECT right now. Time to reinhabit the ghost town.

Also note that you should bring a four-wheeler if you have one. The road to north bridge was too wet to drive and we four-wheelered. You will need a four-wheeler for Swan Pond for sure (I found out a little too late the hard way), and also for Chase if that road is not graveled. Same for the Claypools pits if you want to drive the perimeter of the field.

Signing off for now, come on everybody, lets go whackem. I'll be back for thursday and friday hunts.

super grover out

Every time I come over TRiv is a ghost town....and its not because there are no ducks getting killed. I guess people's schedules are just busy this year. If the Yank crew were here we'd be having 50 duck bags just about every day.

Yep I miss the Yanks! When are you coming back to put some salve on those withdrawal cravings?

looks like well be there for the 13th of jan. pray it aint froze...

its been froze twice so far, and thawed after a few days. Seems to have helped the hunting just by changing things up a little and bringing in new ducks with the fronts. Ducks are pretty hungry after the thaw and come out in force.

So we'll keep our fingers crossed for the 13th....lookin forward to seeing ya'll again.
