Punk'd @ Three Rivers

Sorry for the choppiness of this story, but it will keep it short. Early this morning at 12:15 there was a firm knock at the door. Mack answered the door and I hear, "My name is officer John... and I have picked up several guys on a DUI charge. They say there are members of a duck club here!" At this point I stopped pretending to be asleep and went to the door with Mack. Mack asks well who do you have? Officer- "well I have so and so, so and so, and Mike Hamilton in the back of the car outside!" As I go to the door, the car is up in front of the house with the spotlight shining on the door. Mike is sitting in the back seat still pounding a Bud Light. The officer lets the three guys out of the back seat and Mike starts cursing at the officer- I'm thinking Mike is fixing to get the night stick! Mack and I's eyes looked like saucers! After five more minutes of verbal bashing, Mike and the officer start laughing, and out comes a camera. Mike says "ah... Officer John and I have been friends for years! We gotcha didn't we!" I admitted defeat and retreated to bed. more »

THE DUCKS ARE HERE

eggstyles (by the way, who is your new icon-I don't recognize the face) wanted to hear more about tuesday's hunt so I thought I'd blog a little since I didn't have time yesterday.

John Farley and I had a great hunt in North Bridge. At first light the action was slow....about 645 the ducks seemed to start flying in droves. Despite that they weren't really working ducks. We were kept busy with onesies or twosies of teal coming in and a couple times a big flock of teal. Lots of birds flying to make calling hopeful. We were never bored, every time I poured a good cup of coffee it would either end up cold or spilled. John Farley was sitting in the butter seat as all the ducks came in from the west end of the pit. He took full advantage, shooting very well. We limited at about 0845 or so, and things were just starting to get interesting. Large flocks of mallards and pintail started working and it took real discipline to case the guns and leave, because it was turning into "one of those days" where every duck seems to want your spread. more »

Mack Warr also hunted today...

...out of North Roberts but his hunt is not logged. I asked how he did as I was gonna log the hunt for him and received a "I did okay, can't complain" in reply. Saw no birds at the cleaning station so who knows how his hunt went. Mr Vagueskins. But heard plenty of shooting so my guess North Roberts did well too.

Come On, everybody is smokin three rivers.........

Where is everybody? I hunted Heeb with my buddies from Atlanta Sunday afternoon. Lots of working long distance birds. I am not kidding I saw 100+ ducks working the pit at 80 yards for a strong three minutes. I have never seen that in my short ducking career. No strong commitments on the birds but a long range shooter could have had a good day from heeb sunday afternoon. The only thing i can figure is that the pits north of 14 have not been grazed over yet. In other words, fresh food for the birds. Plus the ice melt really made them hungry. My buddy Mark Christopher shot his first bird. I was really happy. Mark and his 16 year old son have come to three rivers two other times. The two prevous hunts were dismal. They saw ducks fall from the sky, working birds, excellent retrieves from ODIE and met the game warden Larry. After the high fives with Mark, I told him that we know an excellent taxidermist. He said DONE! more »
