Weather this season as it relates to migration

I'm not a scientist, but do hear a lot of folks opinions on duck migration. This season, the only explanation for very few migrating ducks is not enough cold weather north of us to encourage our feathered friends to come down south in large numbers. I think the thing to do with this season is to grasp hold of those 1 or 2 good hunts that you saw ducks in the decoys and hold tight to the good times that you had with family and friends in the blind and at camp. I'm very confident that we'll have a better season next year and I appreciate everyone holding their chin up.
Let's finish our season out strong and see what happens.
Attached does make sense to me compared to a typical norther winter like last year.

Reed,

I know there are a few different "lists" of stages a hunter goes through, but I read this a while back and printed it out. It's pretty good. Because I had kids when I really began to hunt, I probably skipped a few stages and just got to the last one. Either way, I sure do enjoy being at 3 Riv!

•PHASE 1: All you want to do is shoot something. It doesn't matter if it is a doe, hen, spike, etc… You just want to get on the board.
•PHASE 2: Now that you have been successful, you want to shoot something respectable, decent 6 pt, drake wood duck, 2 year old gobbler…
•PHASE 3: The biggest and the best. Now you are a lot more selective, it has to be a bigger buck then you ever shot. You won't be happy unless you take a limit, 10 inch beard, etc…
•PHASE 4: Pass it down. It doesn't matter if you carry that tag all season. It makes you feel better to see your kids or grand kids get their first. All you want to do is be part of that experience of a new hunter.

Hey guy's look at it this way the experts say this past year we had the best hatch in years! It can only get better. I will tell all that I join a club in Mississippi site un seen a big Mistake on my part the only thing the Ducks had to eat was cotton. Lol This year I saw more Ducks at (ThreeRivers)and if I don't see anymore this year I have been blessed to what I have seen, after all you don't know when u have been on your last hunt.

I hear ya. Someone listed the different phases that a
hunter goes through. I will post it later. It seems all
about numbers when you are young and goes thru to just
being along on a hunt. Doesn't matter to me much anymore.
Don't get me wrong, I like to pull the trigger but it
doesn't matter if I do or mot. If someone doesn't beat
me to it, I will post up when I can find it again.

I started duck hunting 26 years ago and have had some awesome hunts. It seems there are always pro's and con's to every year and I must say I've never had the PERFECT year. It's always been something. Too dry, Too wet, Too hot, Too cold, No snow, too much snow, the list goes on. We can second guess all we want but deep down in my heart I hunt ducks for one reason. To spend time with my friends and family, mostly to spend time with my son Jonathan.

He and I have been hunting together since he was 5 and carried a Daisy Red Rider. It's a passion we share. It's a topic of conversation long before opening day. Don't get me wrong I enjoy shooting ducks. I enjoy the challange of fooling the feathered foe with decoys and good calling just like many of you, but If I had to do it by myself I just wouldn't do it.

I said to Thunder Dan in South Dakota on my last pheasant hunt that if killing pheasants was the reason people took the annual trip to South Dakota, well they were here for the wrong reason. The pheasants are but a small part of that trip for me. The fellowship and friendships made on that trip are far more important to me.

I feel this way about my duck hunting as well. It's never been about the ducks I shoot, it's about who's with me when I'm shooting ducks, or should I say shooting AT the ducks!

Damn the Snow Gods!!! Damn them one and all!

They are complaining about the warm weather and lack of migrating ducks also. Duluth, MN was 41 degrees over their average temp. one day last week. The ducks have no reason to leave the great, non-white, north.

Talked to a friend of mine last night that lives near Truman Lake in MO. (just south of KC) Their season went out almost two weeks ago and yesterday he watched what he estimated to be 50,000 ducks coming into a big cut cornfield up near his house.
