Good News!

We're having a dove hunt again on September 1st to get brushed up for the ducks. I've seen the field and we've already got some birds and with harvest starting with surrounding fields next week, it looks promising.

The field we are hunting is one of the farmer's favorite dove fields..… one of the dove's favorite and easy to find downed birds.

We will meet just South of Waldenburg, Arkansas for coffee and a biscuit around 5 AM and leave by 5:30 for the field, which is about 10 miles away.

The Three Rivers Den
5986 Neil Road
Waldendburg, AR 72475

You can't miss it, but just in case, go about 1 mile south of Waldenburg on 49 and take your first left on gravel, first place on your right.

Housing Friday night is available for Three Rivers Members. Check with me for availability if you have a guest that would like to stay over.

As usual, children 14 and under hunt free and everyone else pays $100 and is welcome to hunt all weekend.

This invitation is being sent out to Three Rivers and friends so RSVP back to me with how many spots you would like to reserve and the names of your guests.

When you reply, your spots are reserved and you owe $100/head, rain, shine or cold front.

There are a lot of logistics to consider, so please respond ASAP and we'll let you know if we still have room.

When you arrive at the den, go ahead park your vehicles in an organized line on the road heading West for a smooth exit after breakfast.

Look forward to seeing everyone in the field soon!

What You Need on An Arkansas Dove Hunting Weekend
by Moo

Absolutely Required:

  • A team attitude! Dove hunting is really a team sport, so come ready to root for your field pals.
  • A commitment to safety. Dove hunting is very dangerous due to LOTS of nearby hunters and low-flying birds.
  • A commitment to upholding the law. This is just as important as in any other hunting endeavor. Also, keep in mind that, like duck hunters, our friendly neighborhood Game Wardens probably view Dove Season as a dress-rehearsal for Duck Season!
  • Your Kids! Even if they're not of shooting age yet, dove hunting is a great way to begin building anticipation for Duck Season with your kids.

Important Terms:

  • "LOW BIRD!" for when the birds fly below safe-to-shoot level
  • "JOHNNY!!! OVER YOU!!" Know the locations of your peeps in the field (and their names!) so you can warn them when birds fly over them from behind. Done right, a good dove hunt is like a giant pin-ball machine that works best when everyone helps bounce the birds around the field.
