Rest in Peace, Jackson

Where do you turn on a day like today? Who do you talk to? How do you find understanding in loss?

I am turning to my Three Rivers Family, for today is a black day in my life.

While hunting Claypools (pit) on Saturday, my dog somehow became infected by bacteria. It set in pretty seriously by lunch on Sunday. We found a wonderful vet to see us Sunday night in Jonesboro. We thought we had him settled and on the right track with strong meds and such.

The report Monday morning was positive.

The report Monday night was not.

HRCH Talmo Duck Assassin Jackson passed at 11:45pm CST last night from a blood clot that caused a stroke.

At this point, I don't know why I'm writing. I just know that I wanted it on paper.

I will be picking up his ashes on Friday of this week while I'm at the Club and will spread some of them at Claypools pit.

Rest in peace, my friend. Rest in peace. There has never been a finer friend walk beside me than you.

Matt,

The pain we feel now is hard pressed to cover the joy, exhilaration and pride we feel when that pup snatches that duck off the water or comes flying through rice stubble with the duck we haven't seen for 5 minutes. Jackson never fully dies as long as there is a duck season and a crisp fall day and the memories that we cherish of time in the field. Thank you for reminding us to love em while we have em.

Sorry for your loss.

Difficult to know what words to say other than that...what a tough loss and we feel for you.

Your tribute was very touching, I had to choke back tears myself on reading your post.

Again, sorry for your loss.

I don't think I've ever seen a dog with a bigger heart, nor the intense love of his job.

My Dad raised National Championship English Setters & Pointers during the 70's & 80's, so I've seen my share of great dogs.

Jackson was @ the top of those dogs.

He will be greatly missed.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. This has been a tough time and it's getting tougher by the minute.

I have witnessed a few of his great retrieves but the one this year beats amost. A hen mallard grabbed some rice stubble under water, after me & coal had given up Matt, myself & Jackson went to the spot after sniffing around for five minutes Jackson stayed on a certain area for another minute or two then stuck his head under water and came up with the duck. I am truly sorry for your loss

Matt, As I stated in my text this morning, I don't know what to say. I'll always remember the hunt Jackson, Cole and Sadie had last year on the levee between Claypool and the reservior to the west! Sorry again.

So sorry to hear about your loss. That is a tough pill to swallow, but the hunting dog passed away doing what it loved best!

Hey Moo,

Super post re: Jackson. Great job. A nice memorial.

I am so sorry Matt... Claypool's will be a richer place for having Jackson's ashes there.

Thanks so much for sharing your loss with us here.

I know that retrieving is just a little bit of why we value our retrievers... but with that said, I'll link here to a post I once made featuring Jackson's fine retrieving skills, "Jackson Dubnik Going to Work". (update: I just added more pics to this post)

Matt,

My sincere condolences on your loss. What a shock.

Appreciate you telling about it. I've never heard of anything like that before. If you don't mind sharing, did the vet explain what kind of infection it was, how it was contracted, etc.

Again, sorry.

Dan
