last hooorrahhhh
hey boys our seasin is wrapping up today. it was one of the best if not the best seasons that we have had here. matt b. was in town this weekend, and we were able to get in a little late season mallard shoot. we hunted in the woods on the east side of the state, and the water that was normally 2ft deep was 6ft deep. we were unable to get out of the boat because the water was so deep. so we pitchedout a few decoys and tucked the boat behind about 3 sticks of buck brush and hoped for the best. there we were 4 guys and 1 dog basically sitting in a boat in the middle of a wide open swamp with no cover to speek of. we looked like a bunch of greenhorn sallys. once shooting time started about 30 mallards gave it up. long and short we end up with 15 mallards and to black ducks. a great end to a great year. mouse
Glad to hear Matt B got in on one, I know he misses whackin the ducks down here. We've been killing the ducks consistently, although nothing spectacular. Despite that, seems like the Riv has been a ghost town the times I've been over the past 7 days. Thanks for you heads up on the weather front. It truly was cool to be sitting in North Roberts the day that front rolled in. The sky was so dark approaching from the north...it looked the scene from the movie Independence Day when the mother ships were approaching. The ducks and geese were flying helter skelter like bats in front of the cold front and it was pretty funny. Seeing the snow geese off in the distance to the north with wings lit up in the bright sky ahead of the front, framed against the gray/black of the approaching storm was quite a sight, one you sure don't get to see all that often. Then all was quiet for an hour and then the duck action picked back up again, along with the rain.
Wish you could have seen it, but sounds like your duck action has been good. When are you coming back? TRiv and Arkansas miss the Yanks!

P.S. Say hello to Papa Mouse.
