The great Jimmy Heeb.
He past away this morning and I was just wanting to tell everyone. He played a big role in a lot of peoples life. I remember alot of what he did for me. He could outshoot me and out lift me too. Every time I think about him I remember I'd would be curling 120, and he'd say I bet you can't do this and curl two hundred at the age of 72! He took me on my first ever duck hunt and was personally my most favorite person to duck hunt with not just because he's my grandpa but because he knew the ways of how to duck hunt, he tought me everything I know about duck hunting. I remember like it was yesterday, we were in the duck blind and all of the sudden he just stands up and I hear BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. About the secound shot I raised up and he had dropped a triple of teal in three shots. He always use to kid with me about this. I'd start talking about how better my shooting has gotten, and he'd smile and say "But remember them 3 teal I shot, I bet you can't do that.I'd always say "Yea I know papal I'm no that good of a shot." I was talking to moo the other day at Josie's, and he said he played a big role on hunter, grover and him. If you didn't know him or hunt with him...You missed out. Well I was just wanting to tell all of you this so we all can remember the great Jimmy Heeb. Please pray for my family, we need it bad. 2-8-09.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Based on the personal experience of losing someone very important in my life, I remember that no words take away the pain of that loss. Time will heal the pain, but in the short term I remember what helped was hearing the words of others who loved, admired, and obviously cared so deeply about the man who was so influential in my life. The bond formed in the duck blind between a Grandfather and grandson goes deep, and my heart goes out to you.
I did not have the privilege of spending lots of time or sharing a blind with Jimmy, but I have known him many years now as a visitor to his community, and have enjoyed every interaction that I had with him. I love hearing the stories of his exploits even now. Jimmy has been good to us Ziegler boys... and I will miss him.
I told my Mom this morning about your loss, and it was very telling to me that she immediately knew exactly who he was and his significance to the Ziegler family and Harrisburg community, even though I don't recall her ever meeting Jimmy.
Dakota, you will be in my family's hearts and prayers...

Hey Dakota,
I am very sorry for your loss...
This world will miss your grandaddy a lot. He was an inspiration to my dad as a hunter. I still remember my Dad telling us Zig boys the story of Jimmy Heeb & the Remote Control Goose Hunt... Your grandpa became an epic figure in our minds, like a hero out of a grand old legend.
I'll be praying for you and Nathan and the rest of your family.

There is no greater tribute to those that we have loved and lost than to keep their memories alive by sharing their stories with others. Rejoice in the time that you had with your Grandpa and thanks for sharing his memories with us.
May God bless and comfort your family during this troubled time.

Thanks for the heads up this am Dakota, I had calls, texts and emails all day from over 10 folks, but the first was from you at 7:15 this am. I happened to be in a hunting decoying snows in a layout blind with friends on either side that new Jimmy. After I told them the bad news, we told a couple of stories and I requested first stab at a goose in Jimmy's honor. They agreed and almost let me shoot a specialbelly, but I held off for a legal snow and it was a big fat tundra destroyer, thump!
I have appreciated all the times he pulled me out of the ditch on Maddox lane and elsewhere from 8th grade on and letting us run around his farm so freely for years. I'm so glad we got to have many long talks as recent as one week before season. Poor John Farley had to stand out in the cold for at least 30 minutes as Jimmy wanted to talk about duckin and life's issues for a long time after we decided where to install pumphouse pit.
I'll see you at the funeral and anyone is welcome to come to visitation 6-8 PM at Weston's funeral home tomorrow. The funeral is Tuesday at 10 if you can make it.
