came up with was based more on reality. Folks hunting schedules are dictated by life and there are many things that take precedence....family, work, spouses, bosses, etc. Based on this reality, there are many reasons why pits are reserved then no one shows up to hunt, many legit and some not so legit. Assuming this reality that people's schedules change and human nature being what it is, instead of expecting that most will reserve blinds and then show up and hunt them (I think we've proven that this doesn't happen on a regular basis), we should set the system up to reward those who actually show up. Old time duck clubs did this, and final decisions regarding blind draws didn't/don't happen until you physically show up at a predetermined meeting point at a predetermined time (i.e., Three Rivers main clubhouse 5 am). For example you can reserve North Bridge at home from the computer, but if you aren't present at X time X place, your blind draw is forfeited to the hopefuls who are present. This would also stop the reserving of a blind draw for a buddy when you have no intention of being there. If you reserve the blind, you or team member must be present at appointed time and place to complete the reservation. If you don't show, then your draw is forfeited.
Another option would be changing the pit confirmation to the morning of, rather than the night before. I know I'm not getting up a 5am to reserve anything from home for anybody. I also know I don't want to have to skip my Betty's pancakes and weak coffee to ride to 3R from HBurg to draw straws, just to have to take back rodes all the way up to the Claypools farm.
If someone doesn't show, who decides who can go? If it's frozen early and I want to hunt mid morning or afternoon, do I still have to get up and drive to 3R to stake my claim? Seems like a lot of issues for contention that might require a referee or a say so master. I like those guys, but there is a reason I'm not a member of LL.
and your points are valid. The devil is in the details and I don't have the answer for detail questions cuz, I havn't thought it out that far. I'm just brainstorming. The point I feel strongly about though, is that our system now is based on the flawed premise that people are routinely gonna show up when they reserve a pit, and that if they are not planning on hunting they will let their pit go to free ranger availability for the greater good. That's not happenin' for many reasons, so we need to change our system to fit what happens in reality. Again, the devil's in the details and we are just brainstorming here, and welcome to any and all input.

P.S. Also please remember while we're being critical there, that TRIV has always been a work in progress, there are few if any clubs that offer 3000 plus acres in one of the best counties for duck hunting in the entire U.S. we are doing a LOT of things right for 40+ members! I looked at the hunt log recently....272 hunts over 2100 k ducks harvested for an average of 9 ducks killed per hunt! Thats pretty dang good. And those numbers are based on one of our toughest years yet as far as weather conditions, migration, and harvest to hunt ratios!
What if we could only reserve a pit the night before, rather than days before. Some conflict may come up if we confirm days away, but we should have a pretty good idea whether we're hunting in the morning at 9pm the night prior. Would that help?
There is no question 3R offers more benefits to its members with its unique hunting & club concept. Where else can we hunt this prime a location, in a open kid and guest friendly environment, with great housing accomidations, and play on a level field? Nowhere! It was good before we had access to the Claypools farm. We have taken it up a notch. And who else has got a cool website like this anyway?
then you will just need some punctual peeps on yer team who wake up to the alarm and will put up with you draggin' ass out to the pit 30 minutes after shootin' time....its all good lol.
Nope, the only person at the house last night was eggs and I'm not sure of anyone else that hunted today at the club.
Any thoughts to work on this issue?
I think a lot of fields were frozen this am and later this week is going to be pretty chilly.
And I'm glad you are making the point with some gentle sarcasm. Those that don't have good pit draws don't have many other options when they look and see that 10 pits are firmed, and yet then only one or two of those firmed up pits get hunted. Not exactly the Golden Rule, eh?
maybe we shouldn't reserve a pit unless our tush is going to be in it.
I know the scenero: We get that call from someone that wants us to reserve our pit for them, because we're not there. We try to do them a favor, because we might need them to do the same one day. Then they find a better deal at the last minute. Good intentions, but we're screwing the club when the best 10 pits are reserved and 1 pit is hunted. Truth is, we'd all have better options to hunt if we all stopped reserving pits for others. We need to let the free ranger roll!
As well, it's just as easy to release a hunt as reserve. We need to make sure members and their guests have the best hunts possible. # members = # pits. All of us want the club to do well. We have to realize that holding a good pit vacant isn't beneficial to anyone. R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me.
You asked.
I'll be over on Friday for the thaw til all the ducks are dead.
Yes, respect is the key and if this keeps up, we'll have to put some more hard fast rules in place to make sure it's fixed next season. I'd rather see folks realize that most clubs don't have more than one option in a day and the idea of being able to go to somewhere other than drawn is an absolute luxury. To keep the policy as current, we'll all have to take "open season" a little more seriously and play by the rules behind the rules otherwise, there will be hard fast rules like other clubs have to have because people are greedy. Side note: if a guy went to his blind draw every day, I suspect, he would harvest just as many as a guy that worries about where he's going every day. Might have to put a challenge out for next year with a big prize for the guy that's willing to try the thought.
cya at Josies friday night at 7:30 and if enough people come, I'll sing again for the lucky ones.

Just my 2 cents,

I feel like we've done as well as any other club I've heard from out there.
TRiv always kills birds, pure and simple.
