Specklebelly Geese and Few Random Thoughts

K-Love, Hunter, & myself were treated to a Speck Hunt beyond compare. Saturday morn before starting the work day at TRIV we put out a few Speck dekes courtesy of K-Love, 3 to be precise, and enjoyed a hunt like no other. I've done very little Speck hunting in my time, but let me just tell you this, I was adrenalized for about 90 minutes. We chose the Section Two pit as our huckleberry, and huckleberry she was. Section-2 came through with a memorable hunt. KJ and myself started off for our first sunrise of the year in northeast Arkansas, and soon had to call for pit re-enforcements. Hunter soon joined us to stem the tide and join the war. The action was fast and furious and we did well, but I will go to sleep many a night thinking of the four that flipped in so fast and furiously that we whiffed without scratching a feather.....eight shots. And I thought teal were tuff....flying barns we missed... I'm embarassed to say we missed the broadside that time. Who'd of thought they could fly like Teal being as big as they are.

The random thought part: things to carry in your ditty bag opening week.

-Vienna sausages.....just because.
-pickled eggs by grover in a ziplock bag, if your lucky.
-a bag of zip ties (self explanatory after you've flipped a few gates opening day)
-"Dikes" or "sidecutter" pliers to neaten the zip-ties in your pit
-a few extra weights for those floating but inevitable weightless decoys you will encounter.
-extra decoy string to attach to extra weights (see previous suggestion)
-trash bag to portage out shell hulls and other debris from pit
-please carry out "sinkers" and dispose of properly (ask a seasoned TRIV member if unfamiliar with term "sinker").
-can't think of anything else off the top of my head except I feel sorry for the Spoons Nov 22nd!

Grover,

Sounds like you had a great time. Sorry I missed the fun but could not make it. I was stuck at L10 getting gas turned back on and heater checked. I do plan on smackin some specks this weekend and next week between duck shots.
