Remembering Larry

Larry was a man that I feel blessed to have known... he was a man's man, a true friend, and a wise advisor who taught me a lot. He was always gracious, kind and generous to me and my whole family.
There were a lot of things about Larry I admired, and here are just a few:
- despite his years and experience, he was always ready to learn something new.
- I also admired his readiness to take a risk and just go for it.
- I appreciated that he was happy to share his experience with those of us in a younger generation.
- I often saw him invest in people, including me.
- He became a kind of father figure for my brothers and me in many ways. Larry always had wise advice to offer, he was a consistent presence in hard times, while keeping a positive approach to life, and he shared our love of the hunt

This might be a nice place to write down some of Larry's sayings that we remember:
- On apologies: "I'm glad that you're SORRY you did that, but I'll be happier if you just don't DO it anymore!"
- On finance: "The only money you're ever going to have is the money you don't spend today."

Anybody else have some remembrances to add?

This brief story says so much about Larry, and why we loved to spend time with him...

Some background... Everybody knows chemotherapy is rough stuff... It makes the patient feel like they've been run over by a truck. Doctors say you should stay out of the sun, rest up, etc.

Most people getting chemo would just take it easy and rest up at home. But Larry's not most people! Last June (it was Father's Day weekend), Larry had just received a chemo treatment and decided that instead of kicking back, it might be a better use of his time to take Ashton to go visit friends at the Spring River Oaks Campground. The Kendrick family, Zieglers, Wilfords and other friends were in attendance.

Most people on chemo, if they somehow found themselves at a campground in the summer, would probably content themselves with lounging in the shade. Doctors orders! What?! Not Larry! He thought it would be much better idea to tube the rapids with the kids! When we picked up the tubers downriver, Larry had a fine sunburn!

That's how I'll always remember Larry.
