Water Assessment
Sorry to spring this on you at the last minute, as I've never had to do this before, but desperate times call for desperate measures. For those of you who haven't been to the club or been watching the weather for the last several weeks, this will be news to you. We are in a major drought and fuel prices are at @ $3.00/gallon. After discussing the facts with the farmers, what this means is we have two options.
1) Hunt 1/2 our blinds that are easiest and affordable to get water to and limit hunters to members only until a major rain comes.
2) Pump from now until opening day and incur a way over budget water bill.
After polling several people yesterday and today, the consensus was unanimous. We only have 60 days to hunt and there's no excuse for screwing up the first part of the season that we've looked forward to since last year. I agreed and made the calls today to do everything humanly possible to have good water on as many of our blinds ASAP. I'm not sure of the number yet and will advise, but be expecting a several hundred dollar fuel assesment in January per membership. As the members will remember from 3 years ago, in low openers, the fields that have water can be very productive, so cross your fingers that they will come and stay with us if we give them the water they love.
Again, I hate to do this to the club, but look around and realize that some farmers are refusing to pump, and a lot of places will go unhunted until a big rain happens. Fortunately, we had an option, but expect to work with each other on guest privileges and blinds that can't get huntable water and remember that we are a club, not an island.
If this concerns you greatly, please shoot me an email or call me to discuss and I'll explain in more depth.
Thanks-HZ
