If you think you're a great caller, come and help out. If you could use a little work, don't be shy, we're here to help. The point is, it takes years of practice and experience to be able to trick a duck into the range of your dead eye aim. Coming to these sessions will speed up your journey of becoming an excellent caller. Thanks Glenn for putting this together-HZ

Calling All Duck Hunters,

The sessions are scheduled as follows:

1) Thursday, October 26th, 5:30 PM. QUACK - The quack is the foundation of all calls, except the feed call. To be a good caller, you have to be well grounded in the basic quack. We will work on this as a group and individually. Ryan will work with those that need to get the right amount of growl or grunt into the quack. Did you know that you can tell the maturity of a duck by their quack? Next, he will teach us cadence. How fast or slow you quack has meaning to a duck.

2) Thursday, November 2nd, 5:30 PM. HAIL / COMEBACK CALL - How do you make the Hail Call? How do you make the Comeback Call? When do you use these calls? What is their meaning?

3) Thursday, November 9th, 5:30 PM. FEED CALL - This will be something totally different from what we have learned in the previous weeks, a new skill. Ryan will teach us how to make this call, when to use it, etc.

4) Thursday, November 16th, 5:30 PM. LONESOME / CONTENTED HEN CALL - This is the moneymaker of all calls. If you can just master one call, this is it.

Want to learn how to call a duck? Want to fine tune for the upcoming season? Got a child who wants to learn? Our own Ryan Hadskey, former Pro Staff with Buck Gardner calls, has again stepped forward to help his fellow duck hunters. Ryan knows his way around a duck call from his years working at Buck Gardner Calls. For an individual to become a good, well rounded caller, it takes good instruction, sound fundamentals, knowledge of cadence, ability to read ducks, confidence, and practice, practice, practice. Ryan is willing to share his knowledge, instruction, and application with us over a series of meetings. We will start with the basics and build from there.

For the person wanting to learn, we will begin with the basic QUACK. The following week we will combine the COMEBACK and HAIL call. Week three we move to something totally different, the FEED call. We finish up week four with the CONTENTED HEN. I'll bring food each week, so it least you won't go away hungry.

We will be meeting at a more central location this year, 440 South Shady Grove Road. In typical Memphis fashion, Ridgeway Road turns into South Shady Grove Road on the north side of Poplar Avenue. From Poplar, go north on Shady Grove Road approximately 1 mile. On your right, you will see a brick wall. When that wall stops, you will see a lake. The next driveway to the right is 440 South Shady Grove Road. The mailbox is down the driveway about 75 feet, so you have to look for it.

Ryan has two little ones at home and I would like to compensate him for his time away from the family, so bring $5.00 or $10.00 to put in the hat. That is a small price to pay for this kind of personalized instruction, plus you get to eat my cooking. That's worth the price right there!!! Don't let the money keep you away though. If you can't chip in for a given lesson, just let me know.

Learning to blow a duck call is just like learning to play a musical instrument. It takes instruction, practice, and patience. I would encourage you, if who want to learn or to fine tune you calling, dust off your calls and join us on October 26th, 2006.

Let me know if you are coming, so I can bring enough food. www.glenn.d.floyd@txgt.com
