Attention Benelli owners!!!

Recently I hunted with Shawn Sims when his Super Black Eagle had some issues with the forearm. The first ring broke in pieces causing the forearm to loosen and begin to slide. As the morning went on the problem became worse, the second and third rings broke. He managed to keep it together as we finished our limit of ducks.

Back at The Den, several others with Benelli shotguns took them apart to see if theirs had the same issue. Every Benelli gun we checked, 4 in all, had a hair line fracture in the first ring.

I, also owning a Benelli, but didn't have it with me, looked at forums on the net and learned this was in deed a problem with Super Black Eagles and even M2's.

I called Benelli USA this morning and spoke to customer service, 1-800-264-4962. I was told the hair line fracture is normal (I still have doubts about that) and was told that if the ring completely breaks, which Shawn's did, they would replace the forearm. All Benelli needed was the serial number off the gun.

The customer service rep asked if the guns in questioned had been shooting 3 1/2 inch shells, I said yes, he then replied that was the problem, of course I responded with, "you make it to shoot 3 1/2 inch shells so there should not be a problem" He assured me the crack was normal and Benelli would warranty the forearm if the ring broke completely.

The rep, said to make sure the forearm end cap is TIGHT at all times, any slack adds additional stress on the rings from the recoil. I asked if Benelli was looking at a solution to this problem he said not at this time.

I own at least one of every shoutgun made by each manufacturer Beretta, Browning, Franchi, Ithaca, Remington, and Winchester, I even own a Charles Daily, I honestly expected a little more from Benelli.

After Shawn's experience last weekend I checked my brand new Benelli when I got home Sunday. Sure enough, the first plastic strut was cracked. I called Benelli Tuesday, and the rep first tried to tell me it was normal wear and tear!! Evil Dan immediately appeared, and I told him f%#k that. I just bought the thing in October!!

It's a good thing he didn't tell me it was caused by 3&1/2 shells or I'm afraid something horrible might have occurred.

I want my Stoeger back At least the people at Stoeger didn't make excuses. They just said, "It's broke."

Oh, by the way, they are sending me a new fore end, but they are backordered on them. It would appear everyone's is breaking.

Reminds me of the time I gave my Dad a brand-new Super Black Hawk Eagle Extra Super back in 1995. He was like a little kid with that gun until the ejector on it disintegrated during its first month of normal use. I've been lukewarm on Benelli ever since. I was told that they had a batch of bad ejectors, but that didn't console me much.

Evil Dan, maybe you should call Benelli back and ask them to send you TWO new forearms unless they've fixed the problem that's causing these things to break.

I called Benelli and they were great! I gave them my serial number and they checked available inventory and shipped out the new part at no charge with no questions.

Steve Byrd just called Benelli, They are sending him a new forearm at no charge. I urge you all to check your guns and call Benelli on this.

Yep, that's pretty disappointing. That said, the +P ammunition we use these days is a LOT hotter than what a lot of today's shotguns were designed for! I believe it was Richard Bishop who told me of his discovery that Black Cloud turned his otherwise-reliable Mossberg pump into a single shot, due to the extra pressure causing brass expansion in the chamber.

Oh it is indeed a fact we men love the power, even in the shells we shoot. I think I'd shoot a 4 inch shell if they made it...LOL

My concern is that if you market a gun to handle "even the heaviest 3 1/2 magnums" then you better be able to back it up, and I think Benelli has the ability to build just such a gun. but maybe saving a few bucks on each gun was a bigger concern for the company.

I myself love my Xtrema 2..NEVER had ANY issues with it. Go Go Beretta !!!

Randy,

I too, am a Beretta lover.... my daily driver is the older AL390 shooting the lowly but lethal 3inch mag. And although I love all firearms, I secretly gloat (just a little) when I hear any word that the almighty SBE has a failure of some sort....SAY IT AINT SO JOE!!
